We had two big takeaways from our time in Stuttgart. One was learning the German expression “der Gluckspilz” which translates to “lucky mushroom.” As in, “You’ve arrived here in Stuttgart on the first nice day we’ve had all summer. That’s quite the lucky mushroom.”
But the second big takeaway from Stuttgart was our visit to the Porsche museum. A combination of dozens of stunning cars and a fantastic exhibit design which makes the museum quite the drool-inducing experience.
It was just brought to my attention that our comment system seemed to be down – that it was impossible to leave a comment. It should be back up an running now.
This is Anjel and I standing at the top of the Thorong La pass in Nepal.
We tried to take several photos of ourselves at the literal high-point of this trek and frankly, they all came out a bit off. Clearly your brain isn’t firing on all cylinders at that altitude.
For example, it didn’t occur to Anjel to take off her pack until we’d snapped several photos and she never removed her bandana. Luckily you can tell it’s her because we were wearing nearly identical trekking pants and different colored versions of the exact same jacket. …Did we mention that we’re married? Or that we’ve been spending nearly every second together for the last 10 months? Yeah, weird things happen when you spend that much time together.
With the exception of small municipal or private airports, every airport has a 3 letter IATA code. JFK, SFO, LAX, CHI…
The most interesting piece of trivia involving IATA codes probably has to do with Rush’s song YYZ. The song begins with a morse code rendering of the letters Y-Y-Z ( – - . – - – . – - – . . ) but YYZ was also the airport code for the band’s hometown of Toronto, Canada. As drummer Neil Peart explained: “It’s always a happy day when YYZ appears on our luggage tags.”
With that said, there are hundreds of airport codes, and there’s only one airport in the world that had the ADB (A Dangerous Business) code and by complete chance, we booked a flight through it.
ADB is the Adnan Menderes Airport in Izmir, Turkey. We flew into ADB on Pegasus Airlines from Istanbul on our way to Kuşadası to pick up our rental motorcycles.
