This has nothing to do with travel, and we’re not in China, so I can’t pretend it was inspired by that. It was something that I was reminded of this evening, and it’s a meme that I try to pass along whenever I can. So I’m going to take this opportunity to do so.

Most people know of the game of adding the phrase in bed to the end of fortune cookie sayings:
You will be fortunate in everything you put your hands to… in bed
Decide what you want and go for it… in bed
Your past success will be overshadowed by your future success… in bed
It works most of the time. However, I came up with an alternate ending, which is amusing in its own way: for once. It adds a fantastic defeatest tone to all of those well meaning platitudes.
You will be surrounded by good friends and laughter… for once.
Your skill will accomplish what the force of many cannot… for once.
Compassion will cure more than condemnation… for once.
Yes, it’s just that easy. Try it next time you’re out at a Chinese restaurant. Tell people you came up with it if you like, just get it out there.
